Video from June 22nd, 2024 showing all components work and showing video of condition of the undercarriage (where four steel battery boxes hold the 8 lithium batteries underneath and outside the coach) and a brief peak under the hood
Three easily removable mounting points are included, along with a lightweight screen that quickly connects via three magnets, and a magnetic mounting point for a projector which makes for an easy to store away media center that can be moved throughout the van and used for viewing outside the van
The slightly longer XL (24.25 feet total length) diesel Sprinter chasis hosts a coach with electric induction stove, Insta-hot water heater (electric or diesel powered), microwave/convection oven, automatically extending step, 7 cubic foot refrigerator and freezer (that automatically switches from DC or AC power), bathroom with shower and toilet, kitchen and bathroom sinks, fresh water tank, gray and black water tanks, macerator dump pump, electrically raised couch/bed, Alde hydronic radiant floor heat (powered electrically or by diesel), Dometic low profile air conditioner, overhead bi-directional AirXcel MaxxAir fan (an upgrade from the factory installed Fantastic Fan), outdoor shower, and electric awning. A more complete list of features and specifications can be found in Roadtrek's guide.
This "Warp Core" coach is powered by 1600 amp hours of lithium batteries which receive power from:
The refrigerator/freezer, couch/bed, water pump, overhead fan, LED lights, and DC power outlets all work off the DC power system and do not require an inverter to be powered. For AC powered devices there are 2 x 3KW inverters which will supply power to run the air conditioner, microwave, induction stove, Instahot water maker, and 120V outlets. When the main inverter is on, the fridge/freezer switches to AC power automatically.
The 8 x Ecotrek lithium batteries (each 12V and 200 amp hours) are self-heating for cold weather operation.
Unless you need to use the air conditioner in a hot environment, this van will easily and comfortably power itself for a week or more depending on solar and usage. Plugs are not required. Roughly eight to ten hours of driving to a new location alone will charge the 19KW of lithium from empty to full using the Underhood Generator (GU). This rig is great for taking advantage of free BLM camping.
The fan does a great job of cooling the rig in warm weather. In hot weather, however, we'd recommend hooking up to external power to run the air conditioner. The battery bank can only run the air conditioner off grid for about eight hours. This can be extended by starting the engine and using the Underhood Generator (GU) to power the AC system and/or charge the batteries. People's tolerances are different, of course. We're from Alaska, so we don't tolerate 90F and above and if we can't avoid that heat then we find an RV park with hook ups.
Heating this rig and water, even when off grid, is no problem. The Alde hydronic system runs wonderfully on the van's diesel and sips fuel. Of course you can also heat the van and water electrically.
The massive amount of lithium and solar combined with Starlink makes this rig a completely viable off grid mobile living solution.
This Class B camper van comes with a Starlink Gen 2 router/dish for high speed Internet using a mobile data plan that can be turned on and off as required. Also included is a bug screen to protect the main entrance as well as a RakAttach swing away hitch, two-bike holder, fresh water hose, power cable, Power Defender 30A, 50A adapter, and BluRay and DVD players. It also comes with the two custom fit camouflage front seat covers (which you may want to take off to reveal the successfully protected factory leather), custom made sheets for the bed cushions, custom fit Reflectix for each window and, lastly, a Onewheel Pint for easy travel around RV parks.
All Mercedes service has remained up to date. For our maintenance records and history please send us an email and we will provide them.
We have changed a couple of things from the factory install to suit our needs. We upgraded the Fantastic Fan to the MaxxAir so that we could reverse air flow direction. We took out the table post mounts on the floor, so that we didn't have to walk over them, since we never use the table and so we put those components in storage. We added a water leak/freeze detector in the kitchen and we installed a hinged access panel on the bottom of the couch to more easily access the storage in the back of the van. We stored the cushions that can extend the bed (by filling in the middle) since extending the bed made it awkward to get in and out of bed. Contact us, however, if any of these unused components are desired.
We live off grid in Alaska and have kept the rig in storage as our quick & easy umbilical cord to the lower 48. As our homestead has developed, so also have our chores and responsibilities with animals and gardens. We have less time to get away and so have reluctantly decided to part ways with this wonderful home on wheels.
We have the van stored in northern California, and with some coordination we can show the unit or, maybe, just maybe, drive the van to you for a pre-sales inspection. We hope this website provides the vast majority of information required to limit such in person coordination to pre-sales inspection. If further video is desired please let us know and we will update our gallery at the soonest or coordinate for a Zoom/Facetime remote inspection with you.
